The movie “We Made a Beautiful Bouquet” is a love story written by screenwriter Yuji Sakamoto, whose many monumental serials spanning time periods include “Tokyo Love Story” (1991), “Mother” (2010), “Matrimonial Chaos” (2013), “Woman” (2013), “Love That Makes You Cry” (2016), “Quartet” (2017), and “Anone” (2018). It is his first romantic movie script since “Crying Out Love in the Center of the World” (2004, co-written) and his first original work.
The main characters are played by Kasumi Arimura and Masaki Suda. Arimura has been a protagonist and heroine in many hits including “Strobe Edge” (2015), “The Movie Flying Colors” (2015), “Narratage” (2017), “Cafe Funiculi Funicula” (2018), and “Fortuna’s Eye” (2019), while Suda has starred in both unique, much-discussed works and major productions including “Drowning Love” (2016), “Kiseki: Sobito of That Day” (2017), “Teiichi: Battle of Supreme High” (2017), “Wilderness” (2017), and “The Great War of Archimedes” (2019), but this is the first time for these two talented, leading actors to co-star together.
The story begins the night of a chance meeting between Arimura and Suda, whom Sakamoto had already had in mind when he was writing the script, when both of the two miss their last train at Tokyo’s Meidaimae Station on the Keio Line. It follows their love over the next five years, transcending time, place, and destiny, as they traverse this confusing age between childhood and adulthood. Directed by Nobuhiro Doi (“The Voice of Sin,” starring Shun Oguri and Gen Hoshino, released in 2020), who has worked on many major hits including “Be With You” (2004), “Hanamizuki” (2010), and “The Movie Flying Colors” (2015), this is his first movie with Yuji Sakamoto and first time working together after the TV drama series “Quartet.”
