 “TOKYO VICE” Director Michael Mann pays a courtesy call on Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike

American TV drama “TOKYO VICE” is scheduled to be filmed in Tokyo

Mr. Michael Mann, a director of notable movies such as “The Insider,” “Collateral,” and “Heat,” paid a courtesy call on Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike on November 12th, 2020, just before the start of the filming of “TOKYO VICE”. (*Japanese title not yet determined)

Director Mann told Governor Koike that he is extremely happy to have an opportunity to film in the world’s most exciting city of Tokyo, and expressed his strong motivation that he is firmly committed to shooting in the area of Tokyo while many other foreign productions tend to shoot outside Tokyo.

Governor Koike welcomed Director Mann and his crews and responded that Tokyo is a city with a mixture of an “old” and “new” culture that attracts people in various ways, and Tokyo Metropolitan Government is pleased to provide all kinds of assistance to ensure successful filming.

About “TOKYO VICE”

  • An 8-episode long TV series with a budget of about $80 million (Approx. 8.8 billion Japanese yen)
  • To be aired in HBO MAX in the U.S. by the end of 2021
  • The leading actor will be an up-and-coming Hollywood star Ansel Elgort, and Ken Watanabe and Rinko Kikuchi are casting from Japan
  • “TOKYO VICE” will start its’ shooting from the end of November 2020 in cities including Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Roppongi

This production is supported by Tokyo Location Box (TLB) for shootings in Tokyo.
