Tokyo Sonata’s Neighborhood along Inokashira Line

Todaimae Shopping Street in Megro Ward is featured in the movie “Tokyo Sonata” (2008). From the East Exit of Komaba-todaimae Station on Keio Inokashira Line, follow the shopping street toward Shibuya until you reach the railway underpass. This is the location where Kenji (Kai Inowaki) found the electronic piano. As you pass under the railway and continue on the shopping street, you’ll come across a dry cleaner’s located next to a greengrocer’s. The scene in which Kenji and his father Ryuhei (Teruyuki Kagawa) bump into each other on their way home was filmed at this location. A detached house in Komaba-todaimae served as the main set for the movie. As you walk around the neighborhood and listen to the sound of the trains running along Inokashira Line, immerse yourself into the movie on a deeper, more realistic level.
