Mito Karuta Tournament Venue in “Chihayafuru Part 1”

The Mito Karuta National Tournament in the movie “Chihayafuru Part 1” (2016) was held at Fussa City Civic Hall. The scene in which Taichi Mashima (Shuhei Nomura) can be seen participating in the tournament as well as scenes showing the audience and participants go in and out of the venue were filmed at the hall. With a seating capacity of 1,062 in the Big Hall and 260 in the Small Hall, Fussa City Civic Hall regularly holds a variety of events such as live music concerts, movie showings, and rakugo shows. The concerts organized by the residents also bring much excitement to Fussa City. Make sure to check the hall’s event schedule in advance to enjoy your visit of the location even more. The Big Hall was also used as the filming location for the welcoming ceremony scene in the drama series “Hanzawa Naoki” (2013).
