The dry riverbed along Arakawa River near Senjushin Bridge in Adachi Ward was used for one of the scenes in the movie “Traces of Sin” (2017). The scene in which magazine reporter Takeshi Tanaka (Satoshi Tsumabuki) interviews Takayuki Ogata (Tomoya Nakamura), a university classmate of Yukie Natsuhara (Wakana Matsumoto), who was murdered along with her husband, was filmed at this location. The wide expanse of greenery is well maintained around this area. On sunny days, you can watch the gentle curves of Arakawa River flowing under the blue sky and surrounded by the lush green landscape. Come take a walk on the path that goes along the river.

Kiyosumi Garden is a stroll garden whose main features consist of a central pond, artificial hills, and a Japanese rock garden. Three islands dot the large pond at the center of the garden which includes many places of interest and is known as one of the scenic spots designated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. A walk across the stepping-stone bridge near the edge of the pond offers different views of the scenery, among which, the highest point of the garden: the artificial hill that represents Mt. Fuji. A pavilion that overhangs the pond also serves as a tea-ceremony arbor. The garden is also a famous bird watching spot as a variety of wild birds can be seen gathering at the pond because of the proximity of Sumida River and Tokyo Bay.

The avenue where the casts of the drama "HERO" walks in, in the opening is located in Tatsumi no Mori Green Park, Koto. The trees alongside the avenue are all cherry blossoms and the location is highly recommended for seeing the cherry blossoms in spring. Shrine Visited by the Family on New Year’s in “Grade A Reversal”

The shrine visited by the Sakurai family on New Year’s in episode 6 of the TBS drama series “Grade A Reversal” (2017) is Higashiojima Shrine in Koto Ward. The memorable fortune drawing scene in which Kanako (Kyoko Fukada) draws ‘good luck,’ Kaori (Mikuu Yamada) draws ‘average luck,’ and Shinichi (Sadao Abe) draws ‘poor luck’ was filmed at the shrine. Five shrines that once existed in the Ojima area were burned down during the Great Tokyo Air Raid in 1945. Later, as part of the town’s reconstruction efforts, the residents also wanted to rebuild a shrine. The five original shrines were therefore merged to establish Higashiojima Shrine. In the summer, a magnificent festival where portable shrines and floats are carried around is held at the shrine.

Kiba Park in Koto Ward is featured in the movie “Ajin: Demi-Human” (2017). The scene in which Kei Nagai (Takeru Sato) and Eriko Nagai (Minami Hamabe) can be seen among a crowd of people was filmed at this location. Kiba Park is a vast Tokyo metropolitan park that includes a meeting plaza, a fountain plaza, an event plaza, an adventure plaza, and much more. Every October, the traditional art form ‘Kiba-no-kakunori’ is performed at the fountain plaza, and Kiba’s culture, which flourished from the Edo period to the Showa era, can be experienced. Sendaibori River flows through the park to provide a scenery rich in water and greenery. Come enjoy a leisurely stroll at this location on a fine day.

The scene in which Itsuki (Takanori Iwata) chases Sayaka (Mitsuki Takahata) after she sees him acting a little too friendly with a girl from his part time job was filmed at this location. The bridge, whose bright light blue steel poles and handrails stand out conspicuously, connects Morishita 3-chome and Shirakawa 1-chome in Koto Ward over Onagi River. Todaimae Shopping Street in Megro Ward is featured in the movie “Tokyo Sonata” (2008). From the East Exit of Komaba-todaimae Station on Keio Inokashira Line, follow the shopping street toward Shibuya until you reach the railway underpass. This is the location where Kenji (Kai Inowaki) found the electronic piano. As you pass under the railway and continue on the shopping street, you’ll come across a dry cleaner’s located next to a greengrocer’s. The scene in which Kenji and his father Ryuhei (Teruyuki Kagawa) bump into each other on their way home was filmed at this location. A detached house in Komaba-todaimae served as the main set for the movie. As you walk around the neighborhood and listen to the sound of the trains running along Inokashira Line, immerse yourself into the movie on a deeper, more realistic level.

Hatonomorihachiman Shrine in Shibuya Ward is featured in the TV animation series “March Comes in Like a Lion” (2016). In the series, the protagonist, professional shogi player Rei Kiriyama, often stops by the shrine on his way to Shogi Kaikan, where he goes to take part in matches. There are also scenes in which Shoichi Matsunaga, a seventh-dan player, visits the shrine before matches. Because Hatonomorihachiman Shrine is right behind Shogi Kaikan, professional shogi players can actually be seen visiting the shrine before matches, just like seventh-dan Shoichi Matsunaga. The shrine is a chinjusha (shrine for a patron spirit that protects a given area) of Sendagaya. On the precincts of the shrine, Shogi-do houses a 1.2-meter high koma (shogi piece) that was offered by the Japan Shogi Association. The Shogi-do Prayer Ceremony is held every year at New Year’s, and the shrine holds a shogi tournament every summer. Take advantage of your visit to Hatonomorihachiman Shrine to also stop by Shogi Kaikan.

Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Shibuya Ward is featured in the movie “The Boy and the Beast” (2015). The scene in which Kyuta (Shota Sometani) and Kaede (Suzu Hirose) confront a whale, which is the incarnation of the darkness that people harbor, is set at Gymnasium 1, and the scene in which Kyuta and Kaede grow more familiar after sharing each other’s thoughts and worries is set against a row of zelkova trees at Yoyogi Gymnasium 2. The gymnasium was built for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The gymnasium, which became the main arena for the event, was designed by famous architect Kenzo Tange, a highly regarded architect representative of postwar Japanese architecture.
