The metropolitan zoo is located in Musashino City, Tokyo. More than 200 animals are kept in an area of Inokashira Park which is surrounded by an ancient grove of mixed trees reminiscent of Musashino’s old days. Points of interest include squirrels innocently approaching visitors on the Squirrel Lane, the close-range observation of dear at Musashino Habitat, and holding cute guinea pigs at the Guinea Pig Petting Corner. The leopard cats also are a highlight as their breeding through artificial insemination was successfully achieved for the first time in Japan. Come relax and soothe your soul among the lush greenery filled with lovely animals.

In episode 4 of the drama series “The Reason I Can’t Find My Love” (2011), Emi Fujii (Karina) and Daisuke Takei (Yu Koyanagi) come across Hikari Maeda (Kana Kurashina) and Yu Hasegawa (Kei Tanaka) at Hara Doughnuts Kichijoji in Musashino City. The shop’s familiar white wall stands out strikingly in a corner of the Kichijoji neighborhood. No preservatives are used to make the simple, home-made-tasting doughnuts. Enjoy a snack as you take a walk around the location.

Sakuraichino Bridge

Sakuraichino Bridge served as one of the filming locations of “Before a Falling Star Fades Away” (2015). The scene in which elementary school student Keiichiro Kaji (Shono Hayama) fell off as well as the symbolic scene in which Naoko Motoyama (Haru) breaks down crying were taken here. The opening scene in which Takumi Kawashima (Jingi Irie) is running was also taken on a street nearby. This location was chosen for the filming because the townscape of the area perfectly fitted the world the movie director wanted to depict. Most of the movie was filmed in Musashino City and Mitaka City. While filming, the crew suffered many hardships because of the cold and the many night scenes taken in the midst of winter.

It is a place you can entertain yourself with a walk through nature that seasonally changes its appearance and is one of the most famous parks in Tokyo.

Inokashira Park in Musashino City is featured in the movie “Spark” (2017). The scene in which Tokunaga (Masaki Suda) and Kamiya (Kenta Kiritani) walk together was filmed at this location. Inokashira Park is a historic park that celebrated its centenary in 2017. Boat rides can be enjoyed on Inokashira Pond, which lies in the middle of the park. Tokugawa Iemitsu, the third shogun of the Tokugawa dynasty, is actually believed to have named the pond. The park is a famous spot to view cherry blossoms in spring and was designated as one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Sites. In the summer, it turns into a refreshing oasis of mixed trees. Autumn transforms the same trees into a colorful tapestry and fills the various walking paths with a bed of multicolored fallen leaves. The pond welcomes migratory birds during the winter. Inokashira Park is the ideal location to truly enjoy the various expressions of the four seasons.

Seikei University

Seikei University in Kichijoji, Musashino City, served as one of the locations in the movie “PARKS” (2017). Several scenes were filmed near the main gate, in the main building, at the information library, and in other areas of the university campus. Several faculty members as well as about 40 students volunteered as extras. This movie was produced as one of the projects related to the 100th anniversary of the opening of Inokashira Park, which spans Musashino City and Mitaka City. In addition to the scenes taken at Seikei University, scenes were filmed in Inokashira Park and on the streets of Kichijoji. Come take a stroll around the streets of Kichijoji while recalling scenes from the movie.

In the movie " Strum und drang" ( 2014 ) Arishima Takeo ( Shiro Sano ) walks in plum trees, which can be found in grounds of " Yabo Tenman-gū ". From mid March to January approximately 350 plum and white plum trees blossom announcing the arrival of Spring. Aside from Yabo Tenman-gū, other sites in Kunitachi such as Takinogawagakuen and Nanyouji also appear in the film.

“Tonogayato Garden” situated in Kokubnji is a circuit style garden with woods and ponds that took advantage of the natural terrain of Musashino as it is. The gardening techniques applied in this garden to change the atmosphere of each area is so exquisite. The garden is created by skillfully utilizing the valley by the cliffs: lawn on top of the cliff, natural spring on the bottom of the cliff, and there is a forest. Just a few-minute walk from the Kokubunji Station! This is another spot that you will not want to miss when you are on the filming location tour.

DEN's Kitchen

The restaurant where Hitomiko (Takako Matsu) meets Kazuomi Shigematsu (Dai Watanabe) in the first episode, "Kei-san and Hitomiko-san," in the "Fathers" (2014) drama series is “DEN's Kitchen” in Kokubunji. It is a creative izakaya (a type of Japanese casual drinking and dining establishment) with a fashionable atmosphere where you can eat either Western or Japanese food, including dishes using fresh, locally caught fish and house-made pastas and pizzas.

The drama "Fathers"(2014) uses Musashi Kokubunji Park when Keitaro Higuchi (Masakazu Tamura) and Doshi (Takako Matsu) take a walk here. This park has cherry trees and zelkova, a central circular lawn plaza, ginkgo trees, and pond with a fountain, making it lush and peaceful. are also planted park of green and water overflowing rest, which is also a pond and fountain. Around the pond there is a line of wisteria trellis and Chinese trumpet creepers for 33m, filling the park with color in the season they flower.
