‘In the movie “A Story of Yonosuke” (2013), the last sequence that first shows Yonosuke (Kengo Kora) taking a picture of Shoko (Yuriko Yoshitaka) about to leave for France, then their pledge to soon meet again, and finally Yosuke taking a picture of cherry blossoms before running off was filmed around Hirayama 2-chome in Hino City. The cut that shows them sitting together—and used on the movie package—was also taken here. Fuchuyotsuya Bridge spans over Tama River to connect Kokuritsu Fuchu Interchange on the Chuo Expressway and Tama New Town. It was opened to traffic on December 17, 1998. The beautiful straight lines of the tension cables are typical of ‘cable-stayed bridge’ structures.

In the movie “Too Young to Die!” (2016), Daisuke (Ryunosuke Kamiki) visits Takahata Fudo-son Kongo-ji temple in Hino City on a school trip. Since ancient times, the temple is cited as one of the three Fudo Myo-o. It is also known as the bodaiji (temple taking care of a family’s dead) of Shinsengumi’s Vice-Commander Hijikata Toshizo. Apart from a five-storied pagoda that can be visited, various events such as markets and festivals are held on the precincts of the temple all year round. With more than 2.6 million visitors annually, Mount Takao boasts the world’s greatest number of climbers. The area that includes the summit is called Meiji no Mori Takao Quasi-national Park. When the skies are clear, Mount Fuji—a World Heritage site—can be seen in the distance from the observation deck. Just as the Japanese title implies [the title literally translates as ‘Stand on the Abyss’], the location of the climax invites you to step into new territories. The bridge spans over the upper part of Tama River, between upstream Okutama and downstream Ome, and is surrounded by the deep green of the Okutama area. From the bridge, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the tapestry the valley and limpid stream create. Mountain paths along the valley as well as areas of the dry river bed are maintained as hiking and trekking courses. This is the street commonly known as “Base side street”, which extends along with the National Highway No. 16, facing the Yokota Air Base. Kumagawa Myojin Hall, located on the precincts of Kumagawa Shrine in Fussa City, became the training camp for the members of the Competitive Karuta Club in the movie “Chihayafuru Kami no ku” (2016). Scenes showing the characters having a meal or practicing for the Hyakunin Isshu Karuta Tournament were filmed in the exquisite hall that was built more than 50 years ago. The scenes featuring Ayase Chihaya (Suzu Hirose), Taichi Mashima (Shuhei Nomura), Hideo Harada (Jun Kunimura), as well as a large number of participating extras were taken over the course of three days. The Kagura-den of Kumagawa Shrine, possibly the oldest shrine in Fussa City, is a special place normally used for events such as festivals or gatherings. Kumagawa Shrine is one of the 10 famous sights of Fussa City, and its Main Hall was designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Tokyo. Stone statues of the Seven Lucky Gods are worshiped at the shrine, making it a somewhat unconventional place where Shinto and Buddhism come together. The Mito Karuta National Tournament in the movie “Chihayafuru Part 1” (2016) was held at Fussa City Civic Hall. The scene in which Taichi Mashima (Shuhei Nomura) can be seen participating in the tournament as well as scenes showing the audience and participants go in and out of the venue were filmed at the hall. With a seating capacity of 1,062 in the Big Hall and 260 in the Small Hall, Fussa City Civic Hall regularly holds a variety of events such as live music concerts, movie showings, and rakugo shows. The concerts organized by the residents also bring much excitement to Fussa City. Make sure to check the hall’s event schedule in advance to enjoy your visit of the location even more. The Big Hall was also used as the filming location for the welcoming ceremony scene in the drama series “Hanzawa Naoki” (2013).

The tea house 'Fukuan' in the 'Bunka no Mori' of Fussa city was used to shoot the scenes of tea lessons of Haruko (Shimone Kamishirai) and Fukuna (Jyurina Matsui / SKE48) and singing in the movie 'Lady Maiko' (2014). The house is in wooden single-story of Sukiya style and can also be used for a tea ceremony lesson. There is rich nature of Musashino remained in the surrounding and it is recommended for a walk.
