Ryusen in Taito Ward

The area around Ryusen in Taito Ward served as one of the locations in the movie “Tremble All You Want” (2017). Scenes in which Yoshika Eto (Mayu Matsuoka) walks near her workplace were filmed at this location. This neighborhood is known as the town Meiji era authoress Ichiyo Higuchi used to live in. It was also depicted in various scenes of the masterpiece movie “Takekurabe.” In the vicinity, Ichiyo Memorial Museum gives praise to the literary achievements of Ichiyo Higuchi, Ichiyo Memorial Park features a monument to Takekurabe, and a statue of Ichiyo Higuchi can be found at Senzokuinari Shrine. Come enjoy these sightseeing spots as you visit the different locations of the movie that won the Audience Award at the 30th Tokyo International Film Festival.

Tokyo National Museum

This is the Tokyo National Museum in Taito Ward which appears in the movie "Tornado Girl".(2017). The museum was the site of a lavish press party for the apparel company that employs the heroine- Akari (Kiko Mizuhara). Founded in 1872, the Tokyo National Museum is the oldest museum in Japan. The museum houses important cultural pieces from Japan and other Asian countries, with over 110,000 collections, it is possible to trace the art history of Japan from the Jomon era to the Edo era. In addition to the museum, there are restaurants and shops as well as a green garden. They host many classes and workshops so you might want to check their schedule.

Ueno Park

Ueno Park in Taito is one of the filming locations of the movie "Ohka: Saigo no Tokko" (2015). The movie was made for the 70th anniversary of the end of the war. The symbolic cherry blossoms in the movie was shot in the park chosen as one of the Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Sites. Within the park there is Shinobazu Pond, Saigo Takamori Statue, national galleries, museums and a zoo. It is a site worth visiting.

Okuyama Omairi shopping arcade

In the movie "Bolt from the Blue" ( 2013 ) one of the locations is in Asakusa's " Okuyama Omairi shopping arcade". Sensoji temple's gate leads to this subsequent street with a popular theater and Kimono shop in addition to also various eateries. It's a great shopping arcade to enjoy the downtown atmosphere.

Imosaka Jido Yuen

In the movie 'Bolt from the Blue' (2013), magician Haruo (Yo Oizumi) sat on a bench in the lonely mood, and the scene was shot in this 'Imosaka Jido Yuen' park in Yanaka. Others scenes like an apartment of Haruo and Etsuko (Kou Shibasaki) walking in the falling cherry blossoms are shot in the surroundings of the park, that shows the emotional remains of old downtown.

Asakusa underground shopping street

In the movie 'Bolt from the Blue' (2013), Haruo (Yo Oizumi) and Shotaro (Gekidan Hitori) were passing by this 'Asakusa underground shopping street' on the way to the audition venue. It is the existing oldest underground mall in Japan with remains of retro shops. The atmosphere makes you go back to the days of Showa era with the nostalgic mood.

Sakurabashi-dori street

"Omoni Naitemasu" (2012): This is the Sakurabashi-dori street in Sumida Ward where Izumi Konno (Nanao) loses her picture postcard, and is often used for the moonlight flit scenes. Workshops of craftsmen and first-class Japanese restaurants stand in a row here on the street, and you can nonchalantly enjoy the place as well as Tokyo Skytree.

Tearoom Cattleya

"Tearoom Cattleya" in the drama series "Omoni Naitemasu" (2012) is "Tearoom Flora" in actual life here in Sumida Ward. The scenes are shot without rearranging the tables and chairs, so you can steep yourself in the world of the drama. You will be entranced with the nostalgic atmosphere it creates.

Sakurabashi Bridge

In the drama "Omoni Naitemasu" (2012), "Sakurabashi Bridge" across the Sumida River was used by Keisuke Akamatsu (Yuichi Nakamaru) as a place on the way the studio. This spot appears often in the drama, and being in the form of X is one of it's noticible features. Connecting the Sumida and Taito, it is the only pedestrian bridge Sumida River, and from it you can see the Sky Tree stand out.

Genmoribashi bridge

Among others the scenes where Jin (Toru Kazama) jumps into a river, the scene where Teshigawara Genkosan (Yoshiyuki Tsubokura) shouts to Tsune Fuchikawa (Mayuu Kusakari) in the 2012 drama "Omoni Naitemasu" were taken here at the Genmoribashi bridge in Sumida-ku. Both the Tokyo Sky Tree and Asakusa are very accessible from here, so we highly recommend enjoying it along with these tourist spots.

Edo-Tokyo Museum

The museum is a public musesum located next to Ryogoku Sumo Hall in Sumida. The museum houses materials that passes on the history and culture of Edo-Tokyo to today. There are varieties of displays which you can learn about the changes of Edo (old Tokyo until 1869) to modern Tokyo and experience a life in Edo by riding a palanquin and holding the firefighter's banner. There are special exhibitions held as well. It is highly recommended to visit along with the film shooting sites of "Onihei's Detective Note".

The tallest free-standing broadcasting tower in the world which opened on May 2012 (634m/2,080 ft-tall) The panoramic views from Tembo Deck and Tembo Galleria are just spectacular! You will not want to miss the 360 degree panoramic views on the sunny day. Tokyo Soramachi, situated on the foot of the tower, is also the popular tourist attraction which provides a wide range of shopping and entertainment. When you go on a tour of filming locations in shitamachi, the traditional district, Sumida-ku is a perfect place to let you enjoy the new and old attractions offered by Tokyo.

One of the filming locations for the drama series Hancho 6 - Azumihan, The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department" (2013) is the "Oshinari Park" here in Sumida Ward. This is a park at the foot of Tokyo Skytree, and you can take a walk along the promenades built on both sides of the Kitajikken-gawa river riverbanks, basking in the comfortable breeze.

Yahiro Baseball Field

The ball field in which the decisive scenes that led to the release of Kazuo Hiranuma (Shigeki Kagemaru) in the drama series "Hancho 6 - Azumihan, The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department" (2003) is "Yahiro Baseball Field" here in Sumida Ward. It is the field where the baseball team practices, with Hiranuma as the coach. The scenes where Shoichi Terada (Shozo Hayashiya) hurriedly leaves this place were filmed here.

Kirakira Tachibana shopping street

In the drama "Omoni Naitemasu"(2012) the mall Keisuke Akamatsu (Yuichi Nakamaru) and Midorikawa (Mayuu Kusakari) usually walk and talk in, is Sumida's "Kirakira Tachibana shopping street". Also in the scene where Izumi Konno (Nanao) notices there are no postcards was taken here. Also it was chosen as one of the "Great shopping arcade 30" by the Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry. It is a vibrant shopping arcade with a downtown (shitamachi) Tokyo feel. You can feel the lively atmosphere even with a quick stroll.

Midori Library

Sumida city "Midori Library" is the place which the character Tadashi (Nomura Shuhei) broke up with Kasumi (Hashimoto Ai) in the drama “Wakamonotachi 2014” (2014). This library has local oriented materials such as draft notes and letters of the writers from Sumida city and loved by local people.

Tamaru Shrine

Sumida city "Tamaru Shrine" is the place which the main character Asahi (Tsumabuki Satoshi) was playing in the drama “Wakamonotachi 2014” (2014). In the second episode, Asahi and Satoru were fighting at the precincts of the shrine. It’s said that if you visit here, you can save more money (Tamaru means saving money in Japanese) and is the place to be talked about for its mystical story.

Kyu-Nakagawa Mizube Park

Sumida city "Kyu-Nakagawa Mizube Park" is the place which the character Hikari (Mitsushima Hikari) was talking with Yashiro Takako (Nagasawa Masami) by the water in the drama “Wakamonotachi 2014” (2014). Sumida City developed this area along the Old Nakagawa River for a trail. It has good view of Tokyo Sky Tree and 260 cherry trees along the river. It is the great cherry blossom viewing spot in the spring.\\

Kirakira Tachibana shopping street

Sumida city "Kirakira Tachibana shopping street" is the place which the main character Asahi (Tsumabuki Satoshi) was running by bicycle in the drama “Wakamonotachi 2014” (2014). This shopping street has lively downtown atmosphere and hold regular events like morning market, bargain fair, and tasting and walking. It was also selected as “Great Shopping Street 30” by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. You can feel the lively atmosphere even with a quick stroll.

Sumida Park

Among others the exchanges between Tsuyoshi Azumi (Kuranosuke Sasaki) and Keijiro Mizusawa (Isao Hashizume) and the scene in episode 6 where Moto Kajitani (Jin Tanaka) is arrested were shot in this ''Sumida Park''. It's a nationally recognized cherry blossom viewing spot, and there is a fireworks festival every summer along the Sumida River. It's one of the tourist locations that represent Japan.
